Scouts

10.5 - 14 years old

Each Scout Troop consists of small units of six to eight Scouts called a Patrol, usually led by a Patrol Leader. The activities and adventures continue to get bigger and we start to give them more independence. Outdoor activities feature prominently, with the highlight being camping.

Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camps as well as a wide range of other things, such as electronics, teamwork and important life skills.

We still recognise their efforts through badges and award schemes however there is a bigger emphasis on them to complete their awards themselves.

Scouts Promise and Law

Scout Promise

The Scout Association is an inclusive and values based Movement which supports its Members to engage with spirituality in an exciting and meaningful way. The Scout Association is an open Association and does not identify with one faith exclusively.

Membership is open to all those individuals who share our fundamental values, and are willing to make a commitment to them, expressed by the Promise and Law.

For Christians, Jews and Sikhs

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to God,
And to the Queen,
To help other people,
And to keep the Scout Law.

For Hindus and Buddhists

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to my Dharma,
And to the Queen,
To help other people,
And to keep the Scout Law.

For Muslims

In the name of Allah,
The Most Beneficial and the Most Merciful,
I promise that I will do my best,
To do my duty to Allah,
And to the Queen,
To help other people,
And to keep the Scout Law.

For humanists, atheists and those with no defined faith

On my honour,
I promise that I will do my best,
To uphold our Scout values,
To do my duty to the Queen,
To help other people,
And to keep the Scout Law.

Scout Uniform

What to wear

The Scout Uniform consists of the following:

  • Official teal green shirt, clean and ironed
  • Navy activity trousers, clean and ironed
  • Group scarf, neatly rolled, with a suitable Woggle
  • A Scout belt

Scouts should always arrive to meetings in full uniform unless told otherwise. If we are doing something that may mean their uniform will get very dirty, we will recommend our Scouts bring some scruff kit to change into.

Badge positions

All badges go in a specific location on the uniform. Please see the diagram opposite to see where they should go.
