Giving Skills For Life to young people in and around Oundle
Nene Valley District has a branch of Explorer Scouts partnered with 2nd Oundle Scout Group. Explorer Scouts are more experienced and they are able to take on greater challenges and make a bigger impact, from campaigning to kayaking, or electronics to expeditions.
Explorer Scouts do have the opportunity to work towards activity and staged badges to recognise their skills and achievements. However, the main focus is on working towards Duke of Edinburgh and Scout Senior Awards such as the King’s Scout Award.
Explorer Units are encouraged to actively lead themselves; the Explorers direct the programme and direction of the Unit to meet their interests and needs, with the support and guidance from adut leaders. If Explorers want to achieve something… they go for it!
Many of our Explorer Scouts are Young Leaders with the younger sections at Oundle, where they have the opportunity to take on leadership roles.
Explorer Scouting at Oundle is open to all Members in the District aged 14-18. This is a District provision; we are partnered with 2nd Oundle and are co-located with them but our Explorers are welcome to go to meetings elsewhere and are encouraged to join in with centrally run District activities.
