Explorers

14 - 18 years old

As a section we run a group Whatsapp chat for the Explorers who regularly meet in Oundle.

It serves two purposes: Firstly as way for leaders to communicate with the Explorers (and vice versa) about Scouting activities in a more accessible, informal way, and secondly to provide a channel to coordinate amongst themselves for team activities. Where available it is sometimes used in activites, but not as an essential part.

Communication with young people within Scouting is covered by the Scout Organisation Code of Conduct. More information is given on the Scouts website but some key points are

It is a closed group for members, by invitation only
At least two adult volunteers are in the group at all times
Direct messaging (1:1 contact) is not permitted
All language and content must be appropriate and in accordance with Scouting values
Any safeguarding issues that may arise are dealt with in accordance with the Safeguarding Code of Conduct

It is not a requirement for a young person to be in the Whatsapp group to participate fully in Explorers. Any essential information, and any communication with parents, will still be shared by email and/or verbally in meetings as appropriate.

If you do not wish your child to be a member of the group chat please let us know. If you have any questions we will gladly answer them. If you have already given (or withdrawn) consent there is no need to do so again. There is not currently a means to indicate this on OSM but we will look into adding it in future.
